There are probably few more horrifying sights than seeing your home flooded – something that the residents of one village have unfortunately had to get used to in recent years. However, if the constant deluges in Binfield in Berkshire have taught the locals anything, it’s that plumbing insurance can come in pretty handy.
Of course, in this case, it was leaking pipes owned by the local water board that were to blame. But there’s nothing like a living room filled with water to remind you that being covered in situations where it’s your own pipes that have burst can be invaluable.
According to GetBracknell, South East Water is taking steps to avoid the home being flooded by the plastic water main. The firm has admitted that the 40-year-old pipework is the source of the issue and is working to replace it with a 600-metre metre iron ductile pipe, which it is hoped will put an end to the residents’ flooding misery.
Speaking about the distress that the flooding has caused, Jon and Elena Mares said that they’ve been flooded twice. It has, they say, been a "nightmare" to endure. Elena said: "If it happens again we will move.
"We only moved back in two weeks ago and our neighbours have yet to come back.
"I’m really pleased to hear the company has decided to move the work forward as it is a really awful thing to happen."
Responding to her comments, head of operations at South East Water Mike Keleher said that the works to improve the pipe have been brought forward to sort out the problem sooner.
It’s important, at this point, to highlight how plumbing insurance would not have made a lot of difference in their situation. However, there are plenty of situations where it can be the difference between staying in the black and financial ruin. If you pipes burst and deluge your home with water, you can expect to be covered for replacing your possessions through your home contents insurance.
However, dealing with replacing the pipe itself will require the work of a plumber – which is where plumbing cover can come in. The bill for this type of work can run into the hundreds or even thousands, meaning it makes sense to get protection. With plumbing cover, you can enjoy the peace of mind that you’ll be able to sort out the problem without worrying about how much it will cost. Which is support we could all do with in today’s uncertain financial world.
